Lame definition4/24/2023 ![]() That’s why it’s clear that it’s a slang term, as we are ignoring dictionary definitions to create our own meaning for it.From The American Heritage® Dictionary of the English Language, 5th Edition. This is not officially recognized in the English language. Technically, a person cannot be “lame” when they are disappointing. Instead, people use “lame” to refer to ideas or excuses that people can make. It is not officially recognized as meaning “disappointing” or “boring” when used as an insult. You are so boring! Is “Lame” A Slang Word?.While this slang phrase works well, it is also synonymous for us to say the following: I do not want to go to the park today. The definition of “lame,” according to The Cambridge Dictionary, is “weak and unsatisfactory.”Īs you can see, the definition of “lame” does not directly say anything about being “boring.” We can take the “boring” idea from the “unsatisfactory” comment. If somebody has told you something that you do not find to be fun, then you can say, “you are so lame.” Each one of those is to do with disappointment or boredom in some manner. Is “Lame” The Same As “Boring”?Īs we’ve previously stated, “lame” has a couple of meanings. It is not as offensive as a word like “retard,” which is why it’s acceptable as an insulting slang term. While it’s best not to insult people you like, there is no reason why “lame” cannot be used. However, it is not irresponsible to say because the negative connotations that come from it (implying someone has a limp) are no longer commonplace today. “Lame” is a negative word because we use it as an insult. Of course, in slang format, it just means that somebody is “stupid.” However, it is not politically correct, which is why we do not recommend using it. It comes from the medical idea of being “mentally retarded,” which means you have low intelligence. We should not use it lightly, and it’s best to avoid it completely. “You are a retard” is a way to show that we think someone’s actions were stupid or unnecessary. “You are so lame” is a way to share our disappointment with someone. “You are so lame” and “you are a retard” are not the same in slang. Does “You Are So Lame” And “You Are A Retard” Mean The Same? “You are so lame” can be used in conversation when someone shuts down your plans or tells you to do something that you don’t think is “fun” or “enjoyable.” We use it to show our disappointment while also trying to insult somebody for what they’ve said. I knew you’d find a way to cancel on me! You’re so lame!.I really don’t have enough time right now. ![]() You are so lame! I didn’t know you were scared of the dark.I think you should leave now before it gets too dark out.I can’t keep letting you copy my homework! What if we get caught?.You are so lame! Why don’t you live on the edge a little?.I’m sorry, but my mom will be back any minute. ![]()

Total war warhammer norsca city4/24/2023 Īlthough Chaos remained an ever-present threat, the Dwarfs' isolation served them well. Farther south, however, the Dwarfs found mighty warbands and many twisted creatures of Chaos standing between them and the rest of the Old World they were safe for now, but still isolated. Scouting parties found little trace of their enemy except a handful of isolated warbands, which were quickly eliminated. The next morning, under clearing skies, the Dwarfs found that the foul creatures of Chaos had retreated from their gates. ![]() Then, one night, an unusually powerful storm unleashed its fury on the combatants, driving all into shelter. The war dragged on for years, with neither side gaining the upper hand. Hold by hold, battle by battle, the forces of Chaos were weakened and slowed. The retreating Dwarf warriors swelled the ranks of the defenders in the main forts further north. The outlying forts were overrun, but each did their part slowing the Chaos juggernaut. ![]() Knowing that this situation could not last, the Dwarfs bolstered their fortifications, and waited. The Chaos forces seemed to be concentrating on spreading southward, and paid little attention to the colony of Dwarfs in their midst. A few expeditions tried to find a route to the southern strongholds, but they were forced back each time. When the northern Dwarfs had emerged from their sealed mines, they found themselves surrounded by the beasts of Chaos and cut off from their southern kin. Yet as the storm of Chaos broke upon the Known World, Grungni's messengers reached their northern brethren just about as the Polar Gates began collapsing. Indeed, during this time before the Great Catastrophe, these Dwarfs still considered themselves of the same kin to their brothers from the south. The Norse Dwarfs never were called by such a name when they first established their holds within the Norscan mountains. They also reputedly have a peculiar variant of the Slayers called " berserkers" by Men - Dwarfs so grief-stricken and dishonored that they shave off all of their hair, foam at the mouth and charge into battle determined to hurl themselves into a glorious death on the enemies' weapons. Norse Dwarfs are famed even amongst other holds for their skill at drinking, holding annual quaffing contests to determine the greatest ale-throats. The Norse Dwarfs are regarded as even madder than other Expatriate Dwarfs by many, and much of this is blamed on their holds' proximity to the Chaos Wastes and the Chaos-worshipping Men of the cold and bleak north. However, whether this is because they have become more like the Norscans, or the Norscans have become more like the Dwarfs, is a matter of conjecture and speculation. In many respects the Norse Dwarfs share traits and traditions with the barbaric Men of Norsca, both in dress, beliefs and behaviour. It's not certain if these Dwarfs have given over to Chaos as did their brethren in the Dark Lands, though it is said they have odd customs. Over the centuries, they evolved a culture and language different from that of the Dwarfs that lived further south. ![]() Not willing to lie down and die, these Norse Dwarfs spread out into the mountains, carving new holds for their people. Those not destroyed outright were forced to contend with their new, more savage environment and the Men that lived there. Įarthquakes, Greenskins, and the coming of the Skaven thrust the Dwarf Empire into disarray, severing contact with its most far-flung holds. Those who went north founded Kraka Drak ("Dragon Hold") in a mountain rich with veins of iron and precious metals. Fearing this bleak place, many Dwarfs retreated back the way they came or travelled further north into Norsca to found new holds, whilst the rest remained in the Dark Lands. Thinking to harness the greater magical energy found in the north near the Chaos Wastes, many of these Dwarfs moved into the northern reaches of the World's Edge Mountains until they came to Zorn Uzkul, the Great Skull Land. Though bound through ties of kinship, this led to great strife and arguing amongst the Dwarfs. Some 4,000 years before the birth of Sigmar, the Dwarfs were still experimenting with Rune Magic, and some of their kind pushed the boundaries of their craft too far. So long ago did their ancestors enter the Norscan mountains that these Dwarfs now speak a different language and pursue different customs from those found among the other Dwarfs of the Old World, commonalities that serve to unite all of the other Dwarf Holds of the continent. The Norse Dwarfs, also called Norscan Dwarfs, are those Dwarfs that continue to inhabit the hard and Chaos-corrupted mountain ranges of Norsca, having been isolated from their southern brethren for nearly 7,000 years. Double-clicking on a glyph inserts it into the document you are currently working on. In PopChar (Figure 2), you can search for a particular glyph by its name (e.g., interrobang) or its shape that you draw with a built-in drawing pad, or you can find it by category (e.g., General Punctuation, Currency Symbols, or Greek glyphs). Since I do this often, I got a third-party utility ( PopChar) that lives in the Mac menu bar when it is running. The “Export Collection” menu item in Font Book creates a folder with that collection’s name, and this folder contains copies of all of the fonts themselves! Now some of these exported collections are rather large (700MB or so), but I just imported these folders in Font Book on the new Mac, and everything worked just great.įinding the right glyph is not a task that Font Book is optimized for. The Apple engineers who designed the Font Book application knew that moving fonts to a new Mac was an important task for font addicts like me and that it needed to be as easy as possible to accomplish.Īll I needed to do was to export each of my font collections.
